Dalmally Golf Club

While the existence of a golf course in the Dalmally area can be traced back to before World War One on the Castles Estates, the present-day course arose in the 1980s from the vision of Calum MacFarlane-Barrow of Craig Lodge.  His design reflected the potential of the site and, ably assisted by many others, the course took shape.

From a first meeting in 1985 in the Old Church Hall, a committee was formed by members of the community, gathering regularly over the following years and working tirelessly to create the interesting and challenging course we have today where the premium is on a player’s accuracy and clever course management.  The Club held its inaugural, formal competition in 1987.

Situated along the River Orchy, near its estuary at the head of Loch Awe, the course was originally rented. Purchased by the Club in the mid-nineties, lottery funding supported the creation of greens, tees and bunkers.

The original clubhouse in the early years was a donated caravan before the council-owned TA hut in Oban was offered.  Over a number of weekends, club members dismantled the hut and brought it to its current site where it was re-assembled, with work completed in 1992.  In place to this day, and with the recent addition of a patio overlooking the 9th/18th green, it is a popular place to relax after play.

The Club today, still run by volunteers, remains very much at the heart of the community; striving continuously to improve year on year.  A warm welcome awaits members and visitors alike.

" ‘What a gem ….. Dalmally is a beautiful 9 hole course hidden in the glens of Scotland, perfect for my hickory clubs. The 3rd is one of the most beautiful par 3s I’ve ever played … I can’t wait to return’"
John Hansel, PGA Member, having played Dalmally with Hickory Clubs - August, 2021
